How the ranges work
Budget lane first, written quote second
The planner uses the broad bands in our UK comedian hire price guide: roughly £300–£800 for local or emerging acts, £800–£2,500 for experienced club or corporate performers, and £5,000 upward for recognised names. Those bands overlap real markets; they are not tariffs.
The event and role selections improve the brief but do not silently add arbitrary percentages. A performer or agent needs the real date, venue, timings and requirements before confirming a total.
Ask every quote to include
- ✓ The performer's complete fee and set or hosting time
- ✓ Travel, rail, mileage, parking and accommodation
- ✓ VAT, deposit, balance date and payment method
- ✓ Sound, lighting or technical requirements
- ✓ Cancellation, illness and replacement terms
- ✓ Any tailored writing, research or extra appearances
What changes comedian hire prices?
Date and notice
December parties, Saturday nights and short-notice work can reduce availability.
Travel and finish time
Distance, parking, the last train and a late finish can add real costs.
The job on stage
One stand-up set differs from hosting awards or managing a full running order.
Audience and tone
Clean, family, corporate or specially tailored material can require different experience.
Preparation
Company research, named references and approval rounds increase the workload.
Profile and demand
Recent credits, recognition and limited dates affect the available market.
Comedian hire cost questions
Is this comedian hire calculator an exact quote?
No. It gives a broad planning range based on the performer level you select. Date, travel, availability, preparation, hosting, production, VAT and accommodation can change the written quote.
Can I hire a comedian for under £500?
A short, straightforward booking with a suitable local or emerging act may fall below £500, but location, date and availability matter. Share the full event brief before relying on that budget.
Why can an MC cost more than a stand-up set?
An MC may arrive earlier, manage the running order, introduce speakers or awards, make several appearances and prepare event-specific material. That workload should be included in the quote.
Does Book a Comedian charge to request options?
No. Sending an event brief and receiving suitable options is free, with no obligation to book.
