Terms of use and booking
Effective: 1 September 2026
These terms explain how Book a Comedian operates its public directory, performer profiles, direct enquiries and managed matching service. Contact [email protected] if anything is unclear before submitting information or proceeding with a booking.
Directory and founding profiles
Approved founding profiles are free. Applying does not guarantee publication: we review identity, relevance, public-facing information and media rights before a profile goes live. A founding profile does not later become a paid subscription. Any future paid promotion will be optional, clearly labelled and separate from organic ranking.
Performers must provide accurate information and may submit only text, images, video links and other material they are authorised to use. We may edit for clarity, reject an application or remove inaccurate, unsafe or unlawful material. A performer can ask us to correct or remove their profile by emailing us from the application address.
Direct profile enquiries
An enquiry sent from a public performer profile is a direct lead. The performer and organiser are responsible for agreeing the service, price, contract, payment, cancellation and event arrangements. Book a Comedian does not charge commission on those direct profile enquiries and is not a party to their agreement.
Managed matching
Submitting an event brief and receiving a shortlist are free and create no obligation to book. We may verify the organiser, event details and budget, invite suitable performers to quote and present a private shortlist. A quote is based on the information supplied and may expire or require revision if the date, location, running order, requirements or audience changes.
Selecting an act requests booking confirmation; it does not by itself secure the performer. A managed booking is confirmed only after the performer reconfirms the final details, the organiser receives the applicable written payment and cancellation terms, and we confirm that the required payment has cleared.
Price and commission
A managed-match quote shows the total customer price. The performer sees the split before submitting: Book a Comedian's service commission is 10% and the performer's share is 90%. We do not charge that commission on unrelated work or enquiries that came directly from the performer's public profile.
The precise amount due, payment schedule, performer payment route and event-specific cancellation or refund terms will be stated in writing before a customer is asked to pay. Stripe may process online payments; complete card details are not stored by Book a Comedian. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Event responsibilities
The organiser must provide a safe, lawful venue; accurate timings and audience information; appropriate access, sound and staging; and any agreed hospitality or accommodation. Performers remain responsible for their act, professional conduct, tax, insurance and legal obligations. Both sides must promptly disclose anything that could materially affect safety or delivery.
Information and availability
Profiles, fees, availability and event information can change. We take reasonable care when reviewing information but do not guarantee that every public detail remains current. Verify important details through the relevant enquiry or managed-booking process before relying on them.
Acceptable use
Do not submit false or unlawful information, impersonate another person or act, misuse private shortlist or quote links, scrape or republish the directory at scale, interfere with the service, send spam, or use the platform to arrange unsafe, discriminatory or illegal activity. We may restrict access or preserve records where reasonably necessary to protect users or comply with law.
Liability and law
Nothing excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. Otherwise, to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect loss or for an agreement independently made through a direct profile enquiry. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections and court rights that apply where the customer lives.
How we use personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
